Visiting French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner on Sunday gathered some rival Lebanese leaders for the first time in months, local ANB TV reported.
"In Lebanon, this is a triumph because we succeeded in gathering all these people together," he told reporters at Beirut's airport before his leaving for Cairo to continue his regional tour.
At a Banquet earlier Sunday at the French Embassy in Beirut, the Lebanese leaders sit together to talk to one another, said Kouchner, who described this gathering as a "new phase."
The French minister said the Lebanese leaders had discussed the issue of the presidential elections and a national unity government at this gathering, adding that there was a potential for an accord among the Lebanese.
He also stressed his country's support to the Lebanese institutions and the incumbent government led by Prime Minister Fouad Seniora, saying Lebanese leaders might meet again in France.
He, meanwhile, called for the efforts by international community to resolve the crisis.
Kouchner may come back to Beirut in August to continue his meditation efforts.
Earlier this month, France hosted a conference for conciliation among the warring Lebanese parties in a bid to rebuild confidence and resume dialogue.
Lebanon has been in political impasse since six pro-Syrian ministers quit the cabinet in last November as a result of power struggle between parliament majority and opposition blocs.
