Spanish diplomatic chief arrived here Sunday to inspect his country's troops working under the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), the official National News Agency reported.
Upon his arrival at the airport, Miguel Angel Moratinos, Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, held a private talks with his French counterpart Bernard Kouchner who was then about to leave Beirut, said the report.
During his visit, the Spanish minister will inspect the Spanish unit under the UNIFIL and meet with Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Seniora and other major officials.
On June 24, three Spaniards and three Colombians serving in the Spanish battalion were killed in a car bombing attack targeting their patrol convoy in the main road between the towns of Marjayoun and Khiam near the Israeli border.
Spain has around 1,000 soldiers in Southern Lebanon, working as part of the 13,500-strong UNIFIL which has been fulfilling a peacekeeping task since last summer's Israel-Hezbollah conflict.
