A car bomb went off near a police checkpoint in Salahudin province north of Baghdad on Sunday, killing a policeman and wounding six people, a provincial police source said.
"A driver of a booby-trapped car parked his car near a police checkpoint in the town of Balad, Salahudin, and blew it up before he fled the scene in the afternoon," the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
Earlier in the day, a suicide truck bomb targeting a joint Iraqi army and police checkpoint in Balad, some 80 km north of Baghdad, exploded, killing six soldiers and policemen and wounding four others.
Insurgents often attack Iraqi security forces, accusing them of collaborating with the U.S. occupation.
