The number of illegal immigrants reaching Spain's coasts dropped by 55 percent in the first half of 2007 compared to the same period last year, the Interior Ministry said.
In the first six months of 2007, some 6,306 people entered Spain illegally via its coasts, said the ministry.
The decrease is mainly attributed to the Spanish government's efforts to boost border control efficiency and the repatriation of illegal immigrants, it said.
A total of 28,522 illegal immigrants were repatriated in the first half of 2007, 28.7 percent more than in the same period last year, the ministry added.
