Vietnam expected to have two more deputy prime ministers

Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung on Monday proposed the National Assembly (NA) of Vietnam, the country's top legislature, increase the number of deputy prime ministers of the 12th government to five, from three in the 11th tenure.

The five deputy prime ministers will include a permanent one, one cum foreign minister, one in charge of economy, one of culture and society, and one cum permanent member of the Central Anti- Corruption Committee, Dung said at the ongoing first session of the NA.

Under the prime minister's proposal, the number of ministries and agencies equivalent to ministries will decrease to 22 from current 26. The Fisheries Ministry is expected to merge into the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development; the Industry Ministry and the Trade Ministry into the Ministry of Industry and Commerce; and the Sports and Physical Culture Committee, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, and part of the Ministry of Information and Culture into the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Besides, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment will be restructured.

The legislature is scheduled to approve the prime minister's proposal on appointing deputy prime ministers, ministers, and other government members on August 2.

The 12th government will focus on ensuring annual economic growth of 8.5 percent upward in coming years, and intensifying administrative reform and anti-corruption, Dung said in an interview with Vietnam News Agency after he was re-elected by the NA on July 25.
