Zambian President Levy Mwanawasa has called for reconciliation among political leaders, the church and the civil society, saying "little tensions the country was facing politically were scaring away investors," Daily Mail reported on Monday.
"We all need to reconcile with each other for the sake of developing this country. Let's not be on each others' necks because this is scaring away potential investors who are willing to invest in the country," Mwanawasa was quoted as saying
The president said he gets disappointed with the church, political parties and the civil society that opposes good proposals he has made on national issues, citing the constitutional conference.
Mwanawasa said the role of bringing economic development to the country should not be left to the government alone.
The president appealed to the church in the province to set up training institutions in various skills following the opening of Kansanshi and Lumwana mines in the province. He added that the Zambian government was worried with the high illiteracy levels in North-Western Province despite the economic activities the province was facing.
