Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi said Monday his country would play its level best for the success of the EU-African summit, scheduled to be held in Portugal's capital Lisbon in December.
The Ethiopian Premier made the remark while holding talks with visiting Portuguese Foreign Minister Luis Amado at his office.
Meles and Amado stressed that they are keen to scale up their age-old relations in various sectors, said an Ethiopian official who attended the talks.
They discussed ways through which the two countries could scale up their economic cooperation, particularly in trade and investment sectors, said the Ethiopian official, who declined to be named.
Amado, after the talks, told journalists that he had exchanged views with Meles on the EU-African summit.
He said his government is desirous to scale up the Ethio- Portuguese relations, which he said is historic.
Amado, who was here on a working visit, said his talks with Meles were focused on enhancing the bilateral relations.
In an effort to revamp its diplomatic relations with Ethiopia, which was interrupted at the end of 1963, Portugal opened its embassy in the country's capital Addis Ababa five years ago, he said.
