U.S. Chief Justice John Roberts has been taken to a hospital as a "precaution" after falling at his summer home in Maine, the Supreme Court said on Monday.

Roberts, 52, was at his vacation home in Port Clyde, Maine, but there is no word from the court about know how he fell or what injuries he might have suffered.

He was conscious after the fall, it added.

Roberts has served as chief justice since September 2005, and is the youngest of the high court's nine justices.

He has two small children and no known medical conditions.
