The collision between two Caracas Metro trains on Monday was caused by technical failure in one of the trains, said Venezuela's Interior Minister Pedro Carreno.
The cause of the accident was "technical failure in the train's emergency brakes," he told a press conference in the Miraflores Palace.
The trains collided at around 9:30 a.m. local time (0130 GMT), killing one woman and injuring 11 more people.
It is the first such accident in Caracas's 23-year-old metro. The subway, with 44 stations and built with French technology, had been considered one of the best maintained metro systems in the world.
