The South Korea Foreign Ministry confirmed Tuesday a second South Korean hostage has been killed in Afghanistan.

"One of our citizens kidnapped in Afghanistan, Shim Sung-min, was confirmed July 31 to have been killed," said Foreign Ministry spokesman Cho Hee-yong at a press briefing.

A Taliban spokesman said earlier that the militants had shot dead a male hostage on July 30.

Afghan militants abducted 23 South Koreans in Afghanistan on July 19. The kidnappers killed a man, identified as Bae Hyung-kyu, on July 25.
