Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak on Tuesday discussed the latest developments in the Palestinian territories with Salam Fayyad, Prime Minister of the Palestinian caretaker government in the Egyptian Red Sea resort Sharm el- Sheikh.
During the talks, Fayyad briefed Mubarak on the recent developments in the Palestinian territories and the Palestinian government's plan to ease the suffering of the Palestinian people, the Egyptian MENA news agency reported.
According to Egyptian presidential spokesman Suleiman Awad,
Mubarak's stance on the impasse in the Palestinian territories remains unchanged, which is, dialogue was the only way out, as he made clear at the June 25 four-way summit meeting in Sharm el- Sheikh attended by Egyptian, Jordanian, Palestinian and Israeli leaders.
Suleiman Awad called the meeting as part of the non-stop Egyptian-Palestinian contacts, and Palestinian Ambassador to Egypt Monzer al-Dijani said that the meeting sent a strong message of support for Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and his prime minister, according to MENA.
Egypt is a stop of Fayyad's first Arab tour since he assumed office last month following Abbas dismissal of the Hamas-led government in the wake of the movement's taking over of Gaza Stripe. Fayyad left Cairo for Jordan late Tuesday on his way back to Ramallah.
Fayyad, who arrived here late Sunday, attended the Arab foreign minsters emergency meeting on Monday. He also met Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul Gheit, Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa and Egyptian Prime Minister Ahmed Nazef during his stay in Egypt.
