The death toll rose to 15 from a suicide car bomb attack in central Baghdad Karradah neighborhood on Wednesday and 20 others were also injured in the blast, an Interior Ministry source said.
"The latest report said that 15 people were killed and 20 others wounded in the attack of Karradah, which appeared it was conducting by a suicide bomber," the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
A suicide bomber driving an explosive-laden car blew it up at about 10:30 a.m. (0630 GMT) near the al-Hurriyah Square in the neighborhood, the source said.
The incident is under investigation, as it is not immediately clear what was the target of the suicide bomber who blew up his car after crossing a security checkpoint, the source said.
The blast also damaged several nearby cars and buildings, the source added.
Iraqi security forces immediately cordoned off the scene to secure the area.
Violence continues infesting Baghdad streets despite a more- than-five-month U.S. and Iraqi security plan aiming at putting rampant violence under control.
