A British soldier died of wounds sustained from a roadside bomb attack on his vehicle in Iraq's second largest city of Basra, the British military said on Wednesday.
The soldier, assigned for 2nd Royal Tank Regiment, was killed on Tuesday night when a roadside bomb hit patrol during "routine duties" in the Mustashfa district in Basra, the military said in a statement.
Britain has roughly 5,500 troops in Iraq, mainly based near the city of Basra, some 550 km south of Baghdad.
The latest death brings the number of British personnel killed in Iraq to about 164 since the Iraq war broke out in 2003.
