Iranian Defense Minister Mostafa Mohammad Najjar said on Wednesday that the Islamic Republic is not concerned about Washington's sale of arms to a number of countries in the Gulf region, the official IRNA news agency reported.
Speaking to reporters after a cabinet meeting on Wednesday, Najjar said that Iran is a powerful country in the region and Washington's sale of such arms is not a matter of concern to his country.
Instead, "the Zionist regime (Israel) and those who wish to dominate the region should be concerned," he added.
The United States is supporting Israel in order to save U.S. arms factories from bankruptcy and spread fear in the region, the Iranian defense minister said.
But "we are never afraid of them," he said, adding that Iran has no problems with neighboring Muslim countries, and if they buy any arms they will belong to whole Muslim world.
Najjar noted that it is Israel that should be concerned because it always pursues aggressive policy and is the real cause of insecurity in the region.
Washington announced on Monday that it planned to provide a series of arms deals, estimated at 20 billion U.S. dollars, to Saudi Arabia and five other oil-rich Gulf states as well as new 10- year military aid packages to Israel and Egypt.
Israel will receive a total of 30 billion dollars in U.S. military assistance, up from about 24 billion dollars, over 10 years, while Egypt will get 13 billion dollars as part of the broader package.
