The European Union (EU)'s High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy, Javier Solana, Wednesday appointed Swede Jonas Jonsson as his personal representative for Kosovo.
Jonsson, who will also be the Head of the International Civilian Office (ICO) / EU Special Representative (EUSR) Preparation Team in Pristina, Kosovo, will have a key role in promoting a coherent overall EU approach in the planning for a future enhanced EU presence in Kosovo, according to Solana's spokeswoman Cristina Gallach.
Jonsson is currently a member of the EU Council Secretariat's Policy Unit. He has broad experience of civilian crisis management missions, including in the Balkans. Before he served in the EU Council, he worked for many years in the Swedish Foreign Ministry.
Jonsson's appointment came three days after Solana appointed Germany's Ambassador to Britain Wolfgang Ischinger as the EU's representative to facilitate future negotiations between Serbia and Kosovo.
