Montenegro's Foreign Affairs Ministry issued a statement Wednesday opposing Taiwan's intention to push its bid to join the United Nations by holding a referendum.

The statement said the Montenegrin government backs the "one-China policy" with no reservations, which is its consistent principle and stance.

Montenegro opposes Taiwan's bid for UN membership by holding a referendum, the statement said, pledging that the government and its representatives would assert their position on the international stage and other occasions that the "Taiwan issue" may arise.
