Chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat said on Thursday that the Palestinians want U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to help resume final status talks between Israel and the Palestinians.
"The Palestinians are seeking to achieve two goals. First is to achieve a good content for an international peace conference that U.S. President George W. Bush had called for," Erekat told reporters in Ramallah.
The second goal the Palestinians want to achieve out of Rice's visit to the region "is to resume the talks on the final status with the Israelis," he added.
"We have had enough peace initiatives, and we don't want more. All what we want from Rice is to help implement these initiatives, " said Erekat. "We look for a common Arab stance in case the Arabs join any world peace conference."
Rice, who arrived in Ramallah earlier in the day, met with Prime Minister Salam Fayyad of the Palestinian caretaker government and President Mahmoud Abbas.
In the presence of President Abbas, Fayyad and Rice clinched an agreement worth 80 million U.S. dollars to support Palestinian security sector reform.
