The Zambian parliament has adopted a motion urging the government to support the initiative to transform the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Parliament Forum into a body with full legislative powers.

Legislator David Matongo stressed that Zambia stands to benefit from such an idea as far as economic integration is concerned, Times of Zambia reported Friday.

He said southern African region is the only one in the continent without a regional legislative body.

The eastern and western Africa have already established such, which are advancing common values, missions and objectives of their respective economic communities, he said.
