Three U.S. soldiers were killed and 11 others injured in a roadside bomb explosion in eastern Baghdad, the U.S. military said on Friday.

The attack took place on Thursday when a roadside bomb went off near a U.S. patrol while conducting combat operations in eastern part of the capital, a military statement said.

Having been treated for minor injures, four of the 11 wounded soldiers were returned to duty, it added.

Earlier in the day, the military said one soldier was killed and three others were wounded during combat operations in western Baghdad on Thursday.

The latest deaths bring the number of U.S. soldiers that have been killed in Iraq to more than 3,660 since the Iraq war broke out in 2003, according to media count based on Pentagon figures.
