Two Lebanese soldiers were killed on Thursday in battles with Islamist militants holed up in a Palestinian refugee camp in northern Lebanon, local Naharnet news website reported.
Violent clashes broke out earlier in the day between the Lebanese army and members of Fatah al-Islam militia in the Palestinian refugee camp of Nahr al-Bared, said the report.
A security source was quoted as saying that the soldiers " continue to progress very slowly because there are a lot of mines and booby-traps."
Later Thursday, Islamist militants fired at least five Katyusha rockets from inside the besieged seafront camp and damaged nearby Deir Ammar power station, causing minor damage, said the report.
The Lebanese army have been battling with the militants of Fatah al-Islam in Nahr al-Bared camp since May 20. The bloodiest internal violence since the Lebanese 1975-1990 civil war has killed more than 200 people, including nearly 130 Lebanese soldiers.
The Lebanese government lists Fatah al-Islam as a terrorist network aimed at destabilizing Lebanon.
