The upcoming anti-terrorism exercise of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) will help boost the global fight against terrorism, a Russian expert said on Friday.
Cooperation in defense and security within the SCO plays an important role in safeguarding peace and stability in Eurasia and the world at large, Konstantin Sokolov, vice president of the Academy of Geopolitical Problems, told Xinhua.
The SCO drills are not only in the interests of SCO member states, but also highlight the path for member states to develop sound relations, Sokolov said, who is an expert on nonconventional security issues.
Sokolov praised China's role in the anti-terrorism endeavor. "As the most populous country in the world and the economically strongest member in the organization, China bears a great responsibility for organizing anti-terror operations," Sokolov said.
"Meanwhile, China keeps a good dialogue with other member states on an equal basis," he said.
Sokolov said the SCO should focus on ensuring information security for member states and need to work out plans to counter possible terrorist attacks that employ high-tech tricks.
