Separately, unknown gunmen showered Isam Basheer, a physician, with bullets in Baghdad western neighborhood of Jamia, the source said, citing medical report from the Yarmouk Hospital where the body was transferred.

Also on Saturday, Iraqi police patrols collected 21 unidentified bodies in the capital, including 18 in the Karkh area on the west part of the Tigris River that bisects the Iraqi capital, the source said.

The bullet-riddled bodies were bound, blindfolded, showing signs of torture, he said.

Violence and gruesome finding of unidentified bodies continued in the capital despite a more-than-five-month U.S. and Iraqi security plan aiming at putting rampant violence under control.
