A suicide truck bomb went off in a village near northern city of Mosul in Nineveh province on Monday, killing at least 27 people and wounding more than 22 others, a provincial police source said.
"A suicide bomber driving a truck rigged with explosives blew up his vehicle in the Sadah village outside the town of Tal Afar, some 70 km west of Mosul," Brigadier Sa'id al-Jubouri, head of Nineveh's police media office told Xinhua by telephone.
The truck was full with explosives covered by construction materials, Jubouri said.
The toll is expected to rise as rescue teams and security forces continue searching for more bodies or survivors under the debris, he said.
