Four American soldiers were killed and two others wounded in fighting and roadside bomb attacks in and near the Iraqi capital, the U.S. military said on Monday.

Two soldiers died of wounds sustained due to combat operations in Baghdad on Sunday, a military statement said.

Another soldier was killed and two more were wounded in combat operations in western Baghdad on Saturday, the military said.

An earlier statement said that a fourth soldier died of wounds sustained from a roadside bomb explosion near his vehicle while conducting combat operations near the capital.

The names of the soldiers are being withheld pending notification of the relatives, the statements added.

The latest death brings the number of U.S. soldiers that have been killed in Iraq to 3,669 since the outbreak of the Iraqi war, according to media count based on Pentagon figures.
