Vietnam is holding various cultural events and activities, including art performances and exhibitions to celebrate the 40th anniversary of founding the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung is scheduled to make speech about the ASEAN on TV, and a special art performance will take place at the Hanoi Opera House on Aug. 7, and a seminar entitled "Direction and Measures of Vietnam to take part in ASEAN cooperation towards the goal of building the ASEAN community" will be held on Aug. 10, according to sources from the country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Vietnam is also organizing ASEAN art and cultural activities, including film's week; fine arts, handicraft and cuisine fairs; stamp exhibitions; cultural and art exchange programs, and the issuance of ASEAN stamps and telephone cards.
A week-long exhibition featuring land, people and cultural identities of 10 ASEAN member countries inaugurated in capital Hanoi on Aug. 3. The "ASEAN's Color" exhibition, hosted by Vietnam's Ministry of Culture and Information in collaboration with ASEAN embassies in the country, is displaying nearly 100 photos, roughly 100 stamps, and many handicraft items.
The ASEAN will be 40 years old on Aug. 8, 2007. Throughout the year, its 10 members -- Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam -- are organizing different events and activities to commemorate the anniversary with the official theme "One ASEAN at the Heart of Dynamic Asia."
