Iranian President Mohamoud Ahmadinejad arrived Monday for a two-day state visit to the country, Algerian News Agency (APS) has reported.
Ahmedinejad was received at Algiers international airport by his Algerian counterpart President Abdelaziz Bouteflika.
During his visit, the Iranian president is expected to hold talks with Algerian leaders on bilateral relations and development prospects.
The two sides will also exchange views on regional and international issues of common interest.
Also on the agenda is a meeting between Algerian and Iranian businessmen, to review ways of reinforcing bilateral cooperation in economic and trade domains.
Ahmadinejad was supposed to make a technical stopover in the Algerian capital in January, after his tour of Latin America that took him to Equator and Venezuela.
But Algerian authorities were later informed that the expected stopover by the Iranian leader had been cancelled.
According to political analysts, strong foreign pressure due to the prevailing situation in Iran was the main reason behind the cancellation.
