Two Palestinian children, a sister and a brother, were killed and eight civilians were wounded early Tuesday in a mysterious explosion in northern Gaza Strip, medics and eyewitnesses said.
The witnesses said a huge explosion was heard near al-Nadda high-rises north of Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza Strip, adding that ambulances and rescue teams were immediately called to the scene.
"We found people killed on wounded on the ground, the ambulances took them the nearby hospitals," said one of the witnesses. "It seems that some children found a mysterious device, played with it then it blew up."
Medics at Kamal Odwan Hospital in northern Gaza Strip said that 7-year-old Halla Abdallah and her brother Islam Abdallah, 9 years old, were killed and eight others in the area were injured.
Hamas executive security force at the scene said it would investigate the circumstances of the explosion, adding that it could be an old Israeli mine planted in the area closed to the borders between Gaza and Israel.
Other Palestinian sources said that it could be a homemade Palestinian rocket that militants usually fire from the area into Israel, which has not been launched yet.
