Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said on Wednesday that he hopes the second Inter-Korean summit in late August could help ease tensions on the Korean Peninsula.

While the denuclearization and nuclear disarmament on the Korean Peninsula are being negotiated and discussed at the six- party talks, South Korea should handle it accordingly as a party involved, Abe was quoted by Kyodo News as saying at his official residence.

Abe also called on South Korea to help resolve the issue of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea's past abduction of Japanese nationals.

Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Yasuhisa Shiozaki also expressed expectations that the summit will help push forward multilateral efforts to realize denuclearization on the peninsula as well as sustainable peace and stability in Northeast Asia, Kyodo said.
