U.S. President George W. Bush on Wednesday discussed by telephone with Australian Prime Minister John Howard on the situation in Iraq, the international economic outlook and climate change issues, the White House said.
Bush told Howard that he looks forward to visiting Sydney in early September for bilateral meetings and for the Asia Pacific Economic Conference leaders' summit, White House spokesman Tony Snow said.
Snow did not offer details of the telephone discussion.
Australia, a staunch ally of the United States, has about 1,400 troops involved in Iraqi operations.
U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney visited Australia in February.
