Mongolian President Nambaryn Enkhbayar is scheduled to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Kyrgyzstan in late August as an observer, according to the press office of Mongolia's Foreign Ministry on Thursday.

Mongolia hopes to boost economic cooperation with SCO nations in the fields of electric power, infrastructure, transit and transport. It also wants to obtain information about related cooperation projects at the SCO summit, said the press office.

Mongolia became the observer nation of the SCO in 2004, while its president, prime minister and ministers have attended the SCO conferences in recent years.

Founded in China's economic hub of Shanghai on June 15, 2001, the SCO groups China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, with Mongolia, Pakistan, India and Iran as observers.
