Three people were killed and five others injured in roadside bomb and gunfire attacks in Baghdad on Thursday, an Interior Ministry source said.
A roadside bomb went off in a street in Baghdad's southern district of Baiyaa in the afternoon, killing three civilians and wounding two others, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
Meanwhile, gunmen attacked Iraqi army forces near the Qahtan Square in the Yarmouk neighborhood in western Baghdad, wounding three soldiers, the source added.
The attacks came as the Iraqi capital was under tight security measures, including a vehicle ban imposed since early Wednesday morning to protect throngs of Shiite pilgrims from sectarian attacks.
The pilgrims have flocked into Baghdad from across Iraq to mark one of their key religious ceremonies.
