Two British soldiers were killed in the southern Iraqi city of Basra just after midnight on Thursday, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said.
An MoD spokesman said the dead soldiers were from the 1st Battalion the Irish Guards, and their next of kin had been informed.
The soldiers were attacked when an improvised explosive device was detonated next to their patrol west of Basra, he said, adding that another two soldiers were seriously injured in the incident.
British forces have suffered four fatalities in Iraq so far this week.
On Wednesday, the MoD confirmed that two British soldiers were killed in separate small arms fire attacks in Basra on Tuesday.
The latest fatality brings to 168 the number of British military deaths in Iraq since the U.S.-led invasion in 2003.
