A total of 150 Angolan police will join the Standby Force of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) to carry out peacekeeping missions, according to a statement issued in Luanda on Thursday.
The statement issued by the SADC Police (SADCPOL) Standby Force in the Angolan capital Luanda said each SADC member state should take charge of training the police and of police units resulting from the component of SADCPOL Standby Force.
Common training standards, said the statement, will be carried out by the Regional Peacekeeping Training Center so as to adjust them to the criteria applied by the African Union and the United Nations.
The SADCPOL Standby Force carries out missions of observation, control and intervention in a SADC member states in order to restore peace and security. It will also cooperate, whenever necessary, with the United Nations and its agencies or other international organizations in carrying out peacekeeping missions around the world.
According to the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA), Angola will also send FAA staff to carry out the peacekeeping mission.
