Two senior officials of the Egyptian Culture Ministry were arrested and charged with bribery on Thursday, the official MENA news agency reported.
The two arrested officials are Ayman Abdel-Moneim, supervisor of the Old Cairo project and director of the cultural development fund, the No. 2 man in the ministry, and his colleague Hussein Ahmed Hussein, director of Nuba antiquities fund.
All legal measures would be taken against the two arrested officials if they are found guilty, Egyptian Culture Minister Farouq Hosni was quoted as saying.
The state doesn't cover up any corruption and the law should prevail, said Hosni.
No more details about the arrest are available at the moment and the report didn't elaborate on the nature of the charges.
