At least seven people have been killed in a plane crash in French Polynesia, Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) radio reported Friday.
An aviation official in Tahiti told ABC that a twin engine aircraft crashed off the Moorea island runway and into a lagoon, after taking off for a short flight to French Polynesia's capital of Papeete.
There are no details at this stage on the nationality of those aboard the aircraft, or whether there are any survivors.
But there are also reports saying 12 people were killed.
