The Ugandan government is to open a consulate in war-ravaged Iraq to cater for the increasing number of Ugandans who flock the Middle East country for lucrative jobs, a top official has said.
Sam Kuteesa, the Minister of Foreign Affairs was quoted by state-owned New Vision on Friday saying the mission will be located in Baghdad.
The number of Ugandans working as security guards in Iraq has risen to over 2,000 as another batch of 169 guards left for war- ravaged country early this week.
Kuteesa, who was appearing before a parliamentary committee on Thursday said another consulate would be opened in the United Arab Emirates.
"We have realized that there are many Ugandans going to Iraq and Dubai. Because of security and business developments, we need missions to cover them," he said.
He further revealed that the government would also open missions in Malaysia and the Kenyan port of Mombassa to solve the problems associated with delays of goods there.
