The Islamic Resistance Movement ( Hamas) accused on Saturday Palestinian security services, loyal to rival Fatah faction, of pursuing its members in West Bank in cooperation with the Israeli army.
"The security war, waged by the occupation and the gangs of the Palestinian security services, has expanded to target the Islamic associations and charities," Hamas said in a statement sent to the press.
"Whenever a Hamas partisan gets released from prisons of the Palestinian National Authority (PNA), the Israeli occupation would arrest him," the statement added.
Since Hamas seized control of Gaza Strip in mid-June, pro-Fatah security services have intensified crackdown on West Bank Islamists, saying the move was to prevent an expected coup as what happened in Gaza.
In return, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, also Chairman of the Fatah Movement, accuses Hamas of staging systematic arrests against Fatah supporters. The last such detentions were made in northern Gaza Strip town of Beit Hanoun Friday.
Last night, Hamas supporters in Gaza took to the streets to protest an alleged report that one of Hamas members died in a Palestinian prison in the West Bank.
However, Fatah condemned Hamas rallies, saying the detainee was alive and would appear on the Palestinian official television to reveal "dangerous confessions."
