A senior Fatah movement official Saturday criticized Hamas for its policies in the Gaza Strip while saying that the only way out of the current crisis is resumption of national dialogue.
Ahmed Helles, better known as Abu Mahmer, Fatah's secretary general, told reporters in Gaza that Hamas' practices on the ground "don't encourage the parties to resume any dialogue."
On Friday, the Hamas Executive Force detained over 30 Fatah members and supporters in northern and southern Gaza Strip, according to Fatah's spokesman in the West Bank Fahmi Za'areer.
Hamas' Executive Force said in a press statement that those detained "were not arrested because of their political affiliations, (but) they were detained because they violated discipline."
Fatah's satellite television channel also repeatedly broadcast footage of Hamas executive force members storming a wedding in northern Gaza, shooting in the air and beating up people.
"Such practices of the executive force members on the group are not encouraging anybody to present any initiative in order to end the impasse and resume the talks," said Helles.
"The negative behavior of Hamas movement in the Gaza Strip doesn't help at all to resume any dialogue among the Palestinians. If they want us to stop weddings' celebrations, we are ready to do, " he said.
Helles said that before resuming any dialogue, Hamas and its militants should stop "such negative practices and bring the situation back to how it was before June 14."
There has been no official Hamas-Fatah dialogue since Hamas seized control of the Gaza Strip in mid June, which prompted Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to dismiss the Hamas-led coalition government and appoint a new one led by the U.S.-backed prime minister Salam Fayyad.
