Chinese Vice President Zeng Qinghong urged the Xing'an League of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region to ensure a stable farmland acreage for the national food safety.

During his visit to the league on Saturday and Sunday, Zeng said the league should make efforts to increase grain output and make the region a grain base in northern China.

Xing'an League also boasts 22 million mu (about 1.47 million hectares) of forest. Zeng visited the armed police stationed in the league and urged them to maintain a high degree of vigilance against forest fire, and make more contributions to protecting the forest resources.

Zeng is leading a delegation of the central government to attend celebrations marking the 60th founding anniversary of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in north China.

Chinese Vice Premier Hui Liangyu visited Tongliao City in Inner Mongolia over the weekend. Hui urged the city to give priority to the development of modern agriculture and make continuous efforts to raise the income of local farmers and herdsmen.
