Three militants were killed on Monday during a trade of fires between security forces and militants in Pakistan's South Waziristan tribal region, the spokesman of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Waheed Arshad said.
Talking to a local TV channel Geo News, Arshad said that miscreants attacked security checkpoints in Dargai and Tanai areas of South Waziristan at 2:00 a.m. (2100 GMT Sunday) on Monday. Security forces returned fires and killed three militants.
Arshad also said that the search operation for the recovery of security officials kidnapped by tribal militants a few days ago was under way. Tribal militants in South Waziristan announced on Sunday they would release 16 frontier corps personnel if their 10 accomplices were released.
Violence in Pakistan's northwestern frontier areas escalated since tribal militants scrapped a peace accord with the government in mid-July. Militants intermittently launched attacks on government security forces, leaving hundreds of people dead since early July.
