Pakistan Monday freed 134 Indian prisoners, marking the 60th anniversary of independence by both Pakistan and India, TV channels reported.
India is expected to release Pakistani prisoners Tuesday, according to the private Geo TV.
A total of 28 children and two women are among the Indian prisoners handed over to the Indian authorities at the Wahga border in eastern Pakistan.
Most of the prisoners were arrested on the charges of entering water limits or crossing border un-intentionally.
India was supposed to free 113 civilian prisoners Monday but has changed the plan and the prisoners will be freed Tuesday, Geo TV reported.
Both countries arrest each other's fishermen for entering into their waters and many of them are held for years, often without a trial, before they are released.
Both sides agreed last month to free all arrested fishermen and step up the release of civilian prisoners.
Reports said that India had freed around 680 prisoners while Pakistan released 795 prisoners this year.
