Airport security authorities in Pakistan Monday arrested a stewardess of the official airlines for carrying a pistol into the plane, airport officials said.
The plane of Pakistan International Airline (PIA), with 48 passengers, was scheduled to proceed to Quetta, the capital of southwestern Balochistan, from the port city of Karachi at 06:40 local time (GMT01:40).
Haseeb Beg, Deputy Superintendent Police at the airport police station, said that air hostess Irum Aara was among the crew of the morning Quetta-Karachi flight.
The airport security force recovered the pistol from the purse of the air hostess during the routine security check. She was handed to the police and a case was registered against her for possessing illegal arms.
The police are questioning the air hostess, a resident of Karachi. It was not immediately clear as to why she was carrying the pistol with four rounds.
