A Lebanese soldier was killed on Monday in clashes with Islamist militants at a Palestinian refugee camp in northern Lebanon, the official National News Agency (NNA) reported.
The report quoted the Lebanese army as saying that Corporal Mustafa Mohammad Burghul was killed while on duty in fightings with Fatah al-Islam militants, entrenched in the camp of Nahr al- Bared, some 12 km north of Tripoli.
Meanwhile, sporadic clashes were reported inside the camp with both sides using medium and heavy weapons, and machine guns.
The NNA also said the army was taking control of hideouts of Fatah al-Islam, adding that the militants fired four Katyusha rockets at the army forces.
The Lebanese army have been battling with the militants of Fatah al-Islam in the Nahr al-Bared camp since May 20. The bloodiest internal violence since the Lebanese 1975-1990 civil war has killed more than 200 people.
The army has refused to halt its military offensive before the militants surrender, but the gunmen have vowed to fight to the death.
Fatah al-Islam, listed as a terrorist network by Lebanese government, was added to the U.S. terrorism blacklist on Monday.
