Pakistan is celebrating the 60th Independence Day on Tuesday with great enthusiasm, national zeal and fervor.

The day dawned with special prayers in the mosques for the solidarity, progress and prosperity of the country. Gun salutes were presented at the federal and the provincial capitals in the morning, local TV channels reported.

All the major government buildings, plazas and other private buildings have been decorated with colorful lights, bunting and the country's green flags. The main flag-hoisting ceremony will be held at Jinnah Convention Center in the federal capital Islamabad.

Special arrangements including rallies, public gathering, musical concerts and festivals have been made to mark the day in a befitting manner in all the cities, the Northern Areas and Azad Jammu and Pakistan-controlled Kashmir.

The speakers in these events will highlight various aspects of life of the founder of the Nation, Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, who fulfilled the dream of Muslims of the subcontinent of having an independent state for them.

Besides, arts and crafts exhibitions, photographic exhibitions in various parts of the country will be held depicting the Pakistan Movement. Electronic channels will telecast special programs to inform the public about the importance of the day, while newspapers will issue supplements.
