Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung arrived in Myanmar's new capital Nay Pyi Taw Tuesday to begin a goodwill visit, according to diplomatic sources.
Dung's Myanmar visit is part of his introductory tours to five member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations ( ASEAN), according to Vietnamese sources from the new capital.
Dung's two-day visit, made at the invitation of Acting Prime Minister Lieutenant-General Thein Sein who is also First Secretary of the State Peace and Development Council (SPDC), is aimed at strengthening friendly and cooperative relations with Myanmar, especially in economy, trade and investment, the sources said.
Involving dozens of Vietnamese businessmen, the two sides will focus their discussions on trade, agriculture, crude oil, mining, livestock breeding and fisheries.
Dung's visit represents another premier-level exchange between the two countries following former Vietnamese prime minister Phan Van Khai's Yangon visit in May 2000 and Myanmar Prime Minister General Soe Win's Hanoi tour in April 2005.
The regional tour of Dung, who reassumed the premiership in July this year, also covers Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore and Brunei in accordance with ASEAN practices.
