The South Korean Unification Ministry said Tuesday that the government is considering to send assistance to help the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) cope with flood damage.
"Considering the substantial amount of losses, we are currently reviewing with other governmental agencies whether we should provide aid," said Seo Sung-woo, deputy minister of the Unification Ministry in charge of ties with DPRK.
"Human and material losses from this year's flooding seemed more serious than last year (in DPRK)," Seo said, adding that Pyongyang has not yet made request for assistance.
According to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) of DPRK, torrential rains that started on Aug. 7 caused huge human and material losses in country and left "hundreds of persons dead or missing, more than 30,000 houses for over 63,300 families destroyed or inundated."
