Chairman of the Myanmar State Peace and Development Council (SPDC) Senior-General Than Shwe met with visiting Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung in Nay Pyi Taw Tuesday to discuss the issues of mutual cooperation and the enhancement of friendship between the two countries.

According to the state-run Myanmar Radio and Television, a memorandum of understanding on strategic cooperation between the two countries in oil and gas was signed on the occasion.

Dung arrived Nay Pyi Taw earlier Tuesday on a two-day goodwill visit to Myanmar as part of his introductory tours to five member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Dung's visit is aimed at strengthening friendly and cooperative relations with Myanmar, especially in economy, trade and investment.

Dung's regional tour also covers Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore and Brunei.
