Three Algerian soldiers, including an officer, were killed recently in Tizi Ouzou region in northern Algeria, where security forces have been conducting a mop-up operation against suspected terrorists since last week, Algerian media reported on Tuesday.

The security forces, who were attempting to penetrate a thick forest in this region, were caught up in a series of bomb explosions in an agricultural field, said a report by Algerian daily newspaper Le Quotidien D'Oran.

Two other soldiers and two local guards were injured in the explosions, said the report.

New reinforcements were sent to the area, while Algerian army helicopters resumed bombardments destroying a number of terrorist hide-outs, according to the daily.

In past few days, Algerian security forces have deployed considerable human and material resources following information on the presence of an armed terrorist group in this region.
