UN Secretary-General Ban Ki- moon reiterated on Tuesday the stance of the organization towards "a peaceful, nuclear-free and prosperous Korean Peninsula."

Ban made the remarks during his meeting with Ambassador Pak Gil Yon of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK). In a readout released by the UN chief's spokesman office, he reiterated his welcome of the forthcoming Inter-Korea Summit to be held later this month and expressed his wishes for a successful outcome.

In this connection, Ban emphasized the importance of the Six- Party Talks and expressed his hope for smooth implementation of the February joint statement.

He reaffirmed the United Nations' readiness to offer help or assistance towards a peaceful, nuclear-free, prosperous Korean Peninsula.
