Hezbollah leader Sayed Hassan Nasrallah on Tuesday threatened Israel with a "grand surprise" if it tried to attack Lebanon, local Naharnet news website reported.

If Israel thought of launching an aggression against Lebanon, " I promise you the grand surprise that could change the course of war and the destiny of the region," Nasrallah was quoted as saying.

He made the remarks when addressing a rally of supporters and representatives of allied forces at a soccer stadium in south Beirut marking the first anniversary of Hezbollah's "divine victory" against Israel in last summer's 34-day war.

Nasrallah appeared on jumbo screens erected at the stadium where tens of thousands of supporters waved Hezbollah flags and chanted for victory and their leader, said the report.

Israel launched a massive military offensive against Hezbollah on July 12, 2006, after the latter seized two Israeli soldiers and killed eight others in a deadly cross-border raid.

The war ended on August 14 under a UN-brokered ceasefire after fighting had killed more than 1,200 people in Lebanon, mostly civilians, and 162 people in Israel, mostly soldiers.
